Original

Owned by The McLeod of McLeod, Dunvegan Castle, Isle of Skye.

I am grateful to a fellow member of the Society, Mr. John MaIden, for loaning me slides of this Armorial, from which the following listing was compiled. To The McLeod of McLeod our deepest thanks are due for giving John permission to take the photographs.

When the manuscript was produced the owners of the Arms depicted were not indicated. Subsequently, names have been added by several hands among them Alexander Nisbet. Where a name appears I have entered it transcribing as carefully as I can the spelling as found.

In the index I have, as far as possible, given names in their modern spelling. Where a coat is unnamed and the same is found named in a contemporary Armorial I have included the name, within parenthesis, in the index. I trust that this may prove useful.

Individual quarterings have been entered in the index underlined. In parenthesis I indicate the quarters and, in the case of an escutcheon surtout (ST).

The external ornaments are described separately after the index. They apply only to the first 52 coats and are given in numerical order.
